He'd gotten the courage to tell Dessie. About the dates, about the crushes, about Valentine's Day, about their skipped plans. How she could still be so understanding, how she could still greet him with her beautiful smiling face each time he saw her... He couldn't understand. He didn't deserve somebody as wonderful and forgiving as Desirée.

So that's why he worked hard at his job. The least he could do while he was away was work hard, earn loads of money, and give it to his shopaholic wife. By now the both of them knew there was more to their marriage than the money or the fanaticism or whatnot, but if he could keep her happy, he'd do it!

Working hard at his job, however, was harder than it might first seem. As the only security guard employed full-time at Smash Academy, Ron felt it was his duty to keep watch on things at all times. Hardly ever was he to be found in his living space - in fact, he'd been spending many nights in the security office, behind locked doors and staring at as many monitors as his brain would allow. He'd grown accustomed to drinking coffee: he'd need it, with the hours he spent sleeping (hint: not many). He still didn't like it very much, and he certainly wasn't drinking it quite like the amazing Godot, but it sure could keep you awake long enough. And it was his priority to ensure the safety of all who roamed the campus of Smash Academy.

The whole campus. And he hadn't been doing a great job, if those news reports were any indication. Ron mulled over his recent failures as he stared blearily at his computer screen.

No, they weren't his fault... That was out in the city. That wasn't his responsibility. But soon enough, he was sure. He was sure this would spread here, and he had to do something to make sure that he'd make the school proud. That he'd make his wife proud. She said she'd always liked him for his bravery... His bravery. Ron clenched his fist around the handle of his coffee cup, waking up so suddenly that caffeine alone wouldn't be enough to justify these crazy hours he ran on. He had to be running on something else, and that something was the desire to impress.

And now he had more hope! Gordon offered to assist him in his security duties. Sure, the school contracted some on-call officers that could be summoned, but it was nice to have somebody else around. It would be, anyway: his other fellow employees were, um... A bit on the intimidating side, and Gordon was a bit more comfortable to be around.

The thief spun in his chair to face the monitors, a renewed energy burning brightly inside of him. He had to help somehow! He had to keep watching...! So he'd just have to start with those people on the news. They were a part of Smash Academy, and two of them were students. Vivian and Kiyotaka... those were their names. Maybe Gordon knows something about them, Ron found himself thinking. But who else could he turn to? It was either ask somebody or stress out on this alone - both of which would do, but Ron wasn't sure he could handle much more stress.

At least he had options. But he wasn't sure whether or not he had time to prove himself on the job. He'd have to do something more if he wanted to fix anything.
